Types Of Charity

Zakat:

This is the compulsory act which Allah has ordered for in the Holy Qur’an. Its status is Fardh. Zakah is ONLY complusary on those upon mature, sane men and women who meet Nisab threshold. Of those which Zakah is compulsary, 2.5% of their wealth must then be given every islamic year. Zakah must only be given to the specific eight categories mentioned in the Qur’an.

1. The poor (al-fuqarâ’), meaning low-income or indigent.
2. The needy (al-masâkîn), meaning someone who is in difficulty.
3. Zakat administrators.
4. Those whose hearts are to be reconciled, meaning new Muslims and friends of the Muslim community.
5. Those in bondage (slaves and captives.
6. The debt-ridden.
7. In the cause of God.
8. The wayfarer, meaning those who are stranded or traveling with few resources.

Sadaqah:

Sadaqah (charity) is the concept of giving charity voluntarily fi sabillilah  فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّٰهِ‎ (for the cause of Allah). Even a smile is Charity Sadaqah also describes a voluntary charitable act towards another being, whether through generosity, love, compassion or faith. These acts are not necessarily physical or monetary. Simple good deeds such as a smile, or a helping hand, are seen as acts of Sadaqah

Sadaqatul-Fitr:

Fitrana is a charitable donation of food that must be given before Eid prayer, before the end of the month of Ramadan, for the love of Allah (SWT). Fitrana must also be given by every self-supporting adult Muslim who has food in excess of their needs, on behalf of themselves and their dependants.

Lillah:

The meaning of Lillah is ‘For Allah (SWT)’. The word Lillah comprises of any form or charity that is being given in the path of Allah (SWT) on a purely voluntarily basis with no seek for worldly gains. There are a number of ways to give Lillah and one can select the way that suits him the best. can be utilized on anything that may benefit the mankind. This includes building mosques, Madarassa, schools, and hospitals etc. Lillah doesn’t necessarily have to be in the form of money.
